If you are looking for a family pet that will also offer you and your family a level of security, there are numerous breeds of dog that might be suitable. The term ‘guard dog’ has several levels, and if you have a family, then you are not looking for an attack guard to protect a business premises, rather a large dog with a pleasant disposition that will also alert you when strangers approach the property.   1. Akita – This breed is both big and strong, yet makes for a great family pet, as the dog is very loyal, but at the same time, he looks an ominous foe for anyone to encounter.
